Katikkiro Mayiga Calls for Unity to Defend Buganda Kingdom Against Detractors

Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katikkiro of Buganda, has called on all admirers and supporters of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi to unite in countering the voices challenging the Buganda Kingdom.

In a press conference on Monday at Mengo, addressing the return of Kabaka from Namibia, the Katikkiro emphasized the necessity of a united front. He highlighted that only through collective strength and shared commitment can they effectively address and overcome the opposition threatening the kingdom’s unity and heritage.

He stressed that the Kingdom administration is fully aware of certain individuals working tirelessly to discredit the Buganda Kingdom’s heritage, possibly with the intent to destroy the kingdom. “These individuals have consistently spread falsehoods about the Kabaka’s condition, his officials, and members of his family. There are also others whose goal is to weaken the institutions that uphold the Kingdom.”

He warned that some of these detractors pose as friends, with wide smiles, while intending to cause divisions within the different segments of the kingdom.

He revealed that the Kingdom is aware of their identities and is determined to thwart their plans.

“I urge the people of Buganda to firmly deal with these detractors and disruptors! These disruptors instigated a handful of people to denigrate the Republic of Namibia and some of their missions abroad. We endured this kind of embarrassment even inside Namibia itself. On behalf of the Kingdom of Buganda, I extend our sincere apologies to the government and people of Namibia for all the discomfort caused by these disruptors abroad and in Namibia,” he said.

He revealed that the kingdom has been warning about these individuals. “We will not rest as we see the Kabaka being undermined by these people. These individuals have been visiting the Namibian Embassy under the guise of demanding the Kabaka, yet their motives are selfish.”
