The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has recruited a total of 83 applicants in Sironko and Bulambuli districts as part of the phase one national-wide exercise, which has concluded in the Elgon Sub-region.

Col James Barigye Rukundo, the team leader, announced that 42 successful recruits were from Sironko, and 41 from Bulambuli districts, including 22 females. He emphasised that the entire exercise was conducted fairly, based on merit, and achieved its objective.

Mr. Bayole Stanley, the Bulambuli Resident District Commissioner, urged the recruits to maintain good conduct and focus on their training to serve Uganda with dignity and integrity. “You have gone through a tight and transparent interview process. I urge you to remain patriotic and disciplined to serve Uganda with dignity and integrity,” said Mr Bayole.

Meanwhile, Mr. Giruli David Livingstone, the District Chairperson of Sironko, expressed gratitude to the UPDF leadership for undertaking the exercise to enlist youths into the UPDF to serve the nation.

Several applicants were disqualified for various reasons, including mismatches and discrepancies in their academic documents and national identity cards, as well as medical reasons. Those with forged or fake academic documents were handed over to Sironko Central Police Station for further investigation.

The two-day exercise was witnessed by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Sironko, Hajjat Nabukalu Nulu, along with other senior leaders.
