Police Busts Notorious Vehicle Theft Gang, 13 Suspects Arrested

The Police Flying Squad Unit have arrested 13 suspects and recovered several stolen vehicles in an operation conducted in Kampala metropolitan areas  .

The operation targeted motor vehicle thefts in the areas of Bunamuaya, Kawempe, Mukono, among other areas.

Police spokesman ACP Rusoke Kituuma has identifed the supects as Musinguz Julius, Chibuka Siraje, Mukasa Wamala, Lubega Djeri, Semialo Rashid, Chaze Sami, Chaze Kenneth, Naweondo Teddy, Kasivante Steven, Bukenya Bashir, Wandera John, Wijumbuko Paul, and Anguzo Moses.

Rusoke revealed the recovery of a vehicle with registration number UAP 049 which had been stolen from Kumi. The vehicle’s original registration number was UAS 043Z was impounded following the interrogation of the suspects.

“A case of aggravated robbery has been registered and is being investigated in Kumi under C.R.A.B. 365 of 2024.Two suspects, Amoit George and Taika Geoffrey, have been remanded in Kumi prison following our investigation process.”he said

Another recovered vehicle was an Isuzu with registration number UAX 827B, stolen from the Kakumiro district. The vehicle’s number plate had been altered from its original UBN 736K.

According to Rusoke, the Flying Squad Unit’s operation has significantly disrupted the criminal activities of several gangs operating in the central and western regions of Uganda.

He further reveals that one of the gangs suspected of stealing lorries and selling them in Kampala, and sometimes transporting them to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is allegedly commanded by Wandera John, who is now in custody.

“We urge the public to employ target hardening techniques to reduce the incidence of vehicle thefts,” Kituuma advised. “For instance, installing car trackers is a vital asset in tracking down and locating stolen vehicles.”said Rusoke

He has also encouraged vehicle owners to take preventative measures to protect their assets
