The Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) has eagerly joined the preparations for the upcoming Inter-religious Family Festival 2024, set to take place this weekend.
Phina Mugerwa Masanyalaze, the UMA General Secretary, addressed the press, announcing that the association will provide part of the entertainment for the festival.
This event aims to revive the family spirit by celebrating unity, peace, and African cultural heritage.
Phina Mugerwa Masanyalaze, the UMA General Secretary, addressed the media on Wednesday, inviting UMA members to register to perform at the event, scheduled for Saturday, June 29, at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala. President Yoweri Museveni is expected to attend as the chief guest.
“The Inter-religious Family Festival is inspired by the ideal of ‘One Family under God.’ It affirms that all people, regardless of tribe, religion, and nationality, belong to one human family and are endowed by the Creator with freedom and fundamental rights,” said the UMA leader.
According to Mugerwa, at least 20,000 participants are expected, including international guests, kings, chiefs, religious leaders, parents, teachers, business entrepreneurs, students, and the general community.
Daniel Token Wejuli from the Interreligious Council of Uganda emphasized the festival’s focus on the family institution.
“We are at least religions coming together because our goal is to ensure that we have stable families based on culture and traditions as God intended,” he said. “We invite everyone to participate in this event, as long as it promotes the well-being of the family. Our musicians and entertainers have already created works that convey this message.”
Milton Kambula, President of the Global Peace Foundation, highlighted the significance of involving musicians in the festival due to their influential role in society.
“We want music that builds families, unites peace, and supports the national vision,” he stated.
Some of the artists participating in the event have promised to deliver performances that will promote family revival.
Comedian and TikToker Kabanda Sulaiman, also known as Taata Kimbowa, encouraged his fellow TikTokers to seize this opportunity to receive proper guidance from elders, saying, “I call upon my fellow TikTokers to come and embrace this chance for us to receive proper guidance from our elders.”
