MP Mpuuga Successfully Hosts Thanksgiving Event
Nyendo Mukungwe Member of Parliament and former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga was today joined by dozens of politicians and supporters for thanksgiving prayers at Kitovu Sports Arena in Masaka.
Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga was represented by Waggwa Nsibirwa, the second Deputy Katikkiro of Buganda.
Parliamentary Commissioners Prossy Mbabazi Akampurira, Solomon Silwany, and Esther Afoyochan, who, along with Mpuuga, are accused of awarding themselves Shs 1.7 billion from the Parliamentary Commission, were in attendance.
Monseigneur John Baptist Ssebayiga, the main celebrant of the thanksgiving mass, was critical of issues related to corruption and the unplanned eviction of people from wetlands.
The event has sparked a political frenzy in the Greater Masaka region, with some observers speculating about a possible splinter group or defections from NUP. However, Mpuuga’s supporters remain loyal, and the event has been seen as a success.
In his speech, Mpuuga thanked God for his life and service to the nation. He also expressed gratitude to his supporters for standing by him and promised to continue serving the people of Nyendo-Mukungwe.
The event concluded with a grand finale of music and dance, with Mpuuga and his supporters celebrating late into the night.
The ceremony has heightened political tension in Greater Masaka ahead of the 2026 general elections. Mpuuga’s fallout with the National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership has led to speculation about his political future. The event is seen as a show of strength and a potential launchpad for a new political party or alliance.
