UPDF in New Recruitment Drive for Technical and Engineering Roles

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced an additional recruitment drive, following the recent enlistment of S.4 leavers. The age limit for applicants is set between 18 and 28 years.

According to Brigadier Felix Kulayigye, the Director Defence Public Information, the recruitment will focus on specific educational qualifications. Candidates with UACE (S.6) science-based combinations must have at least a principal pass in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or Geography, along with subsidiary passes.

The acceptable combinations are PEM, PCM, PCB, BCM, and MEG.

For those with Degrees or Diplomas, the required fields include:

Civil Engineering,
Telephone Engineering,
Automotive Engineering,
Computer Engineering,
Aircraft Maintenance Engineering,
Electronic Engineering,
Cyber Security,
Computer Forensics,
Computer Science,
Aerospace Engineering.
Additionally, trades such as masons, electricians, painters, specialized fabricators, carpenters, heavy engineering equipment operators, and heavy engineering equipment mechanics are also sought after.

Brigadier Kulayigye stated that applications are to be submitted through the UPDF website at www.updf.go.ug/careers/. The application period begins today, June 19th, and will run for 14 days, concluding on July 3rd.

From July 4th to July 10th, applications will be reviewed and successful candidates’ names will be published on the website. The list of successful applicants will be uploaded between July 11th and July 14th.

Applicants who find their names on the website are required to report to the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo for further screening on July 15th. This screening will include medical and physical fitness tests and will commence on July 15th, 2024.

Brigadier Kulayigye emphasized that successful applicants must bring specific documents, including their National Identity card, and letters from LCI and LCII Chairpersons, as well as from the GISO and DISO.

He also reiterated that the recruitment process is entirely free and no money is required at any stage.
