Police Recover UPDF Gun from Karamojong Warrior
Police in Moroto district recovered a gun belonging to the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) from a Karamojong warrior in Nadunget Town Council.
The recovery took place on Friday at around 9:00 PM after John Angella, the LC1 chairperson of Nachuka village, reported spotting a suspected warrior with a weapon.
Angella identified the warrior as Locur Sagal, who was seen sneaking into the village with a gun. He notified the police at Nadunget Police post but Sagal dropped the gun and escaped before they could apprehend him.
Michael Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He stated that while the gun was recovered, the suspect managed to vanish quickly after spotting security officers from a distance. The recovered weapon will be submitted to ballistic experts to determine if it was used in any murders.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest Sagal and bring him to justice. Longole commended Angella for his proactive effort in reporting the incident and encouraged other community leaders to follow suit to help restore peace.
Since the Usalama Kwa Yote disarmament operations began in July 2021, a total of 1,165 guns and 8,848 rounds of ammunition have been recovered from Karamojong warriors.
