Kataleya and Kandle Reemerge as “K & K Music” After Fallout with Theron Music
After over six months of silence, female musicians Kataleya and Kandle made a comeback two weeks ago. Rumors suggest that the duo had a falling out with Theron Music, the record label they were signed to, due to several unspecified reasons.
Earlier this month, Kataleya and Kandle, now rebranded as “K & K Music,” reopened their social media accounts under the new name.
However, on the very day they reactivated their Facebook and Instagram accounts, they were hacked, leaving them only with access to X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok.
A week later, the duo released a brand-new song titled ‘Tompa,’ in collaboration with Swangz Avenue’s diva Vinka. The video of the song, uploaded to their new YouTube channel named KK Music, has garnered 67k views since it was published six days ago and the channel now boasts over 2.6k subscribers. The song is also receiving extensive airplay on various media stations.
In a local TV interview this week, Kataleya and Kandle discussed their whereabouts over the past months and their issues with Theron Music.
“We have been in the country. We got into some misunderstandings with our former management, so we needed time to reflect and be with people who care about us, especially our immediate family members,” Kandle explained.
When asked to elaborate on the nature of their dispute with Theron Music, the duo hesitated, explaining that the misunderstanding was akin to those that can occur between any business partners. However, they expressed gratitude to their former management for advancing their music careers to a point of widespread recognition.
They were quick to deny rumors that their separation was related to any sexual relationships with members of their former management team, a speculation that had circulated when news of their fallout with Theron Music first emerged.
The duo confirmed that CCTV cameras had been installed in their rented apartment by their former bosses to monitor their movements and actions. This and other factors contributed to their decision to part ways with the label that had initially brought them into the limelight.
Kataleya, whose real name is Namakula Hadijah, and Kandle, real name Nabatuusa Rebecca Robins, met at Kataleya’s birthday party through a mutual friend. They had their stage names, Kataleya and Kandle, even before meeting. Kandle had started her solo music career, recording a few unreleased songs. They formed a duo around 2019 while balancing their music aspirations with their clothing business.
Their very first song, produced by Ronnie On Dis One, was never released or played on any media platforms. However, they performed this song during their audition for Theron Music in 2021, leading to their signing with the label.
Their initial releases under Theron Music, ‘Tonafuya,’ ‘Muzibe wa Love,’ and ‘Do Me,’ were instrumental in their breakthrough, especially during the nationwide lockdown following the COVID-19 pandemic.
