The 10th edition of the Miss Tourism Ankole pageant is set to take place on July 20, 2024, at the Western Meridian Hotel in Bushenyi District, featuring 15 contestants vying for the coveted crown.

Among the contestants is Desire Ajuna, a student at Kyambogo University, who is driven by a passion for celebrating her cultural identity and heritage.

“I aim to use this platform to promote cultural identity, heritage, and leadership, while fostering personal growth and networking opportunities,” Ajuna expressed.

Shallon Nayebare, Communications Officer for Miss Tourism Ankole, stated that the pageant’s purpose is to market and promote tourism destinations in the Ankole districts.

“Our queens play a vital role in showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, inspiring both domestic and international tourists to explore Ankole,” Nayebare explained.

Previous contestants, such as Hopekins and Ritah Ampeire, have emphasized the importance of regional pageants in promoting tourism and cultural exchange.

“We serve as cultural ambassadors, showcasing our region’s heritage, traditions, and attractions, while prioritizing sustainable tourism practices to preserve our environment for future generations,” Ampeire noted.

The organizers are seeking support from well-wishers and tourism enthusiasts to overcome funding challenges, as the initiative is privately managed. The winner of the pageant will be crowned on July 20, 2024, at the Western Meridian Hotel.

“We prioritize greening tourism initiatives, emphasizing sustainable practices to preserve our environment for future generations to enjoy. Through our platform, we strive to not only attract visitors but also to cultivate a deeper appreciation for Ankole’s beauty and the importance of responsible tourism,” added Ampeire.
