Police in Jinja are hunting for a 65- year- old man accused of defiling a 9- year- old girl with the promise of supporting her premature political ambitions.
The suspect Juma Mukulu fled into hiding after severally luring his victim into having sexual intercourse with him, and standing for the Jinja District Woman MP seat come 2026, with his financial muscle.
James Mubi, the Kira Regional Police Spokesperson says the suspect, a resident of Nakabaale village, Butagaya sub county and a neighbour to his victim defiled her multiple times until her mother realised something was wrong.
He notes that preliminary information shows that the matter was deliberately concealed by the victim’s family, who also connived with the suspect’s family to force the child into marrying the old man.
The two parties had started engaging in negotiations for dowry when the girl’s family developed disagreement over sharing the undisclosed sum of money,causng the matter to be reported to police authorities.
Mubi says all those involved will be arrested and charged with interfering with the administration of justice, conspiracy to commit a felony among others.
“The ill intentions of the culprit came to light when the victim’s mother observed awkward movements of her child when she inquired the child opened up and narrated the sad ordeal. The parent immediately reported the case to Butagaya police station in Jinja district that sparkled off investigations. The victim has been medically examined, and medical report supports the allegation levelled against Juma Mukulu.”said Mubi
Adding that; “For a person to stand for any elective political position has to be at the age of eighteen years and above.”
He says efforts are underway to capture the suspect and to prosecute him on charges of aggravated defilement and getting involved in null and void or prohibited marriage with a minor.
He has warned parents, guardians, and the general public to desist from settling cases of capital nature.
