Police have confimed six deaths this morning, June 12, 2024, after a tragic road crash occurred at Kakiika along Ntungamo-Rukungiri Road in Ntungamo District.
Three others have also been injured. The accident involved a Toyota Hiace (UBN 337H) and an Isuzu bus (UAP 385U) belonging to Kasaaba Bus Company.
According to the Traffic Police spokesman Micheal Kananura, the Toyota Hiace, traveling from Rukungiri to Ntungamo, suffered a tire puncture and parked on the right-hand side of the road with its full lights on, partially obstructing the tarmac.
The bus, traveling from Kampala to Rukungiri, veered off the road and collided head-on with the parked Toyota Hiace. The impact instantly killed six people, including the driver, a turn man, and a police officer from Nsangi Police Station.
Kananura says traffic police transported the injured to Devine Health & Ntungamo Specialist Medical Centres for treatment. The deceased were taken to Rwashameire Health Centre IV for post-mortem examinations.
Both vehicles have been towed to Ntungamo Central Police Station as investigations begin.
