Kisha Ruth Namale, hailing from Kyadondo, now proudly possesses a Toyota Ractis and other accolades after clinching the title of Miss Buganda Tourism at a vibrant grand finale hosted at Hotel Africana.

Outshining 27 other contenders, the 22-year-old secured the coveted prize, with Miriam Zalwango from Buddu emerging as the First Runner-Up, and Ruth Mitchell Bisoboka from Bugerere securing third place.

Reflecting on her victory, Namale, who also serves as a professional flight attendant at DAS Aviation School, acknowledged the intense competition, attributing her success to divine grace.

“Participating in beauty pageants transcends mere appearances; it’s about depth of knowledge. Extensive research and study are imperative, as the competition encompasses various tasks pivotal to the advancement of Buganda Kingdom and the tourism sector,” she emphasized.

Namale underscored that engagement in such endeavors isn’t solely about winning but also yields substantial personal growth throughout the journey towards the crown.

“I pledge to collaborate with fellow leaders of Buganda Kingdom to ensure the promotion of our heritage among the youth. I will commence by championing tourism in Kyadondo County, my place of origin, and extend this effort to other counties,” she vowed.

The competition commenced with a quest for participants across all 18 counties constituting the Buganda region. Each county dispatched three representatives to vie in the ultimate stage.

Twenty-eight finalists competed across diverse categories encompassing culture, national issues, and academics.

Preceding the finals, participants engaged in an array of activities during a three-week boot camp, including agricultural sessions and excursions.

Cotlida Nakate, Buganda Kingdom Gender Minister, representing Nnaabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, asserted that Buganda’s cultural fabric is woven from multifaceted elements, with Miss Tourism serving as an integral component.

“Cultural heritage entails myriad facets, encompassing music, language, attire, conduct, and cuisine, all of which were showcased during this event,” she articulated.

Nakate lauded the event’s demonstration of Uganda’s essence as the “Pearl of Africa,” highlighting the paramount objective of promoting and safeguarding cultural norms, and commended the dedicated team driving this cause.

Dubbed the Kaynela Edition, the event aimed to underscore the symbiotic relationship between tourism and agriculture in Buganda, while spotlighting prominent landmarks and attractions within the kingdom.

Contestants from all 18 counties of Buganda participated in the pageant, showcasing not only physical allure, skills, and talents but also a profound understanding of Buganda’s cultural heritage and tourist destinations.
