Bigirwa Announces 2026 Bid for Kamuli MP Seat After NUP Split

Moses Bigirwa, the founder of the newly formed political pressure group Eastern Revolutionary Platform (ERP), has opened up about his election bid for 2026 amid news of his alleged breakaway from the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), which continues to make headlines in the Busoga region.

While addressing the media at Sama Restaurant in Kamuli Municipality, Bigirwa, who is currently suspended as the NUP Deputy Secretary for Mobilization in the Eastern region, confirmed that he will not run for the presidential seat in the next general election. Instead, he will contest for the Kamuli Municipality MP seat, which he lost in the previous elections to Kayanga Baroda.

“Many people have said that I would contest for president because I have started a pressure group, but that is not true. In the 2026 general elections, I will contest for the Kamuli Municipality Member of Parliament seat because I am the only suitable candidate who can play the political cards on an international level,” Bigirwa stated.

He also revealed that ERP has embarked on forming leadership structures to help mobilize people to join their cause for change. He urged elected leaders to encourage others to join their group.

“This is just the start; we shall establish more structures from the village level to the top as we push for change. I urge you to look for more members to join our group because the time for a change in the top leadership of the country is now, and it starts with you and me.”

Bigirwa further called on more political leaders from eastern Uganda to join ERP, arguing that the region has long been marginalized in terms of national service delivery despite having vibrant politicians who have contributed significantly to the country’s development.

“I urge you to join us because, as eastern Uganda, we have been marginalized due to a lack of top leadership. We should fight together so that the next president comes from eastern Uganda,” he said.
