Museveni Hails Onyango As he is Named Best African Goalkeeper

President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated Uganda Cranes goal keeper Denis Onyango after he was named the best African goal keeper.

“I congratulate my son Denis Onyango for being named in Africa’s best XI football team at the just-concluded CAF Awards in Dakar, Senegal. There is no doubt his goal-keeping skills have contributed immensely to Uganda’s recent footballing success, and as a country, we are proud of him,” Museveni posted on his social media platforms.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Salah of Liverpool football club and Egypt national team was named African player of the year for a second time in a row. Salah 26 beat Liverpool teammate and Senegalese forward Sadio Mame and Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick Aubamayang.

Salah dedicated the award to his family, teammates, fans and all those that have supported him in his so far industrious career. The prestigious awards took place on Tuesday night at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Centre in the Senegalese capital of Dakar.

The accolade comes after Salah had an incredible season were, he scored a staggering record breaking 32 premier league goals in 38 premier league games. Being the first player to out score three premier league clubs in a season: having outscored West Brom (31), Swansea (28), and Huddersfield Town (28).

Other winners included, Platinum award which went to Senegal’s president Macky Sall, Women’s National Team of the Year: Nigeria, Men’s National Team of the Year: Mauritania, Women’s Coach of the Year: Desiire Ellis(South Africa), Men’s Coach of the year: Herve Renard(Morocco), Youth Player of the Year: Achraf Hakimi(Morocco and Borussia Dortmund), Women’s Player of the year: Chrestinah Thembi Kgatlana(South Africa and Houston Dash), National association of the year: Morocco, Best Goal in 2018 Chrestinah Thembi Kgatlana(South Africa and Houston Dash).

The 2018 CAF Awards ceremony Was held at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center in the Senegalese capital of Dakar.

Others that made the select first eleven team included Serge Aurier, Medhi Benatia, Eric Bailly, Koulibaly, Keita, Thomas Partey, Mahrez, Mohammed Salah, Emerick Aubameyang, and Sadio Mane.
