Two Suspects Arrested for Torturing and Burying 16-Year-Old Alive in Shallow Grave
Police at Mbarara Central Police Station have detained two suspects for attempted murder a 16-year-old boy from Kabujye Cell, Sheema District.
The suspects Kamuhanda Evans (17) and Kamukama Apollo (43), both locals from Kaliba Cell, Bubaare Sub-county, allegedlly tortured and attempted to kill Amanya on May 28, 2024, around 10 a.m.
According to Fred Enanga, the Police spokesman, the suspects accused Amanya of stealing their phones, before tying him to a tree and torturing him mercilessly. Later that night, they dug a shallow grave, where they buried him.
Enanga explains that Amanya managed to crawl out of the grave and took refuge in a nearby shack. He remained there for two days until he was discovered and taken to the police on May 30, 2024, around 6 p.m. He was subsequently transferred to Bubaare Health Centre for treatment.
Enanga expressed deep concern over the incident, highlighting the severity of the crime. “It is extremely saddening that the victim was held captive, tortured over a missing phone, and dumped in a shallow grave by his co-workers. He was fortunate to survive such an ordeal,” Enanga stated.
He says the suspects are facing charges of torture, conspiracy, and attempted murder. Enanga emphasized that torture is a serious crime that can lead to murder, urging the public to observe the rule of law and avoid acts of impunity. The police are actively working to locate other suspects who are still at large to ensure they are brought to justice.
