Police Arrest Security Guard for Shooting Civilian at Gwanda Mall, Kampala

The Police are hunting for a suspect involved in a viral shooting incident at Gwanda Mall, Kisenyi Parish, Kampala Central.

In a video clip shared widely on social media, the suspect is seen at about 6 pm, fighting off a suspected thief before grabbing his gun and opening fire at him.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan Deputy spokesman, Kalyebi Ismail, a security guard attached to SGA, was on duty at Gwanda Mall when he attempted to arrest Katongole, whom he suspected of criminal activity.

During the arrest, a struggle ensued, and Katongole overpowered Kalyebi. In response, Kalyebi retrieved his gun and shot Katongole once in the waist, disabling him.

Owoyesigyire explains that upon receiving information about the incident, police units of Muzaana and Old Kampala visited the scene. They evacuated the victim to Mulago Hospital, where he is currently admitted with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He says CCTV footage has been retrieved to aid the ongoing investigation into the events leading up to the shooting.

The suspect, Kalyebi Ismail, is currently on the run, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.
