Commissioner General Byabashaija Inspects Newly Constructed Ntungamo Prison

The Commissioner General of Uganda Prisons, Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, concluded his two-day visit to the South Western Region of Uganda with an inspection of the newly constructed Ntungamo prison.

During his visit, Dr. Byabashaija emphasized the importance of ensuring the well-being and security of both prison staff and inmates. He conducted a thorough inspection of the prison, closely examining the staff housing, prisoner wards, security features, and critical areas surrounding the facility.

Dr. Byabashaija stressed that his primary focus was on ensuring the facility upholds safe, secure, and humane living conditions for inmates. “Kindly remain patriotic, conduct regular medical check-ups for a healthy life, and continue providing excellent services,” he said.

The Commissioner General commended the Ntungamo Prison staff for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to maintaining the new facility. He encouraged them to continue their excellent service and to prioritize their health by undergoing regular medical check-ups.

Dr. Byabashaija also held meetings with Officers-in-Charge (OCs) and their deputies from various prisons across the South Western Region. The discussions focused on strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the Uganda Prisons Service. Key topics included adherence to administrative guidelines, preventing prisoner escapes, and the efficient management of both staff and inmates.

The new Ntungamo Prison represents a significant advancement for the Uganda Prisons Service, featuring modern staff housing units and prisoner accommodation.
