UPDF Launches Nationwide Recruitment for 9,627 Infantry Personnel
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has unveiled plans for a recruitment drive, aiming to recruit 9,627 new members into its Infantry forces. This nationwide exercise will commence on July 1, 2024, and conclude on July 14, 2024.
In an official communication, Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the Defence spokesperson, outlined the procedure for aspiring candidates. Prospective recruits must obtain recommendations from Local Council officials (LCI, LCII, LCIII), the Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO), and the District Internal Security Officer (DISO). Applications are to be submitted to the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for registration. The UPDF collection teams will then gather these applications and forward them to the Joint Staff Human Resource Management for shortlisting.
Successful applicants will be announced via District/City notice boards and will be instructed to attend final interviews at designated recruitment centers. The recruitment exercise will cover all 135 districts and 11 cities in Uganda, divided into ten zones: Buganda, Busoga, Bukedi/Teso, Mid-western, Kampala Extra, Rwenzori Region, Northern, Karamoja/Sebei, West Nile, and Western.
Brig. Gen. Kulayigye emphasized that candidates must be Ugandan citizens with valid National Identity Cards, physically and medically fit, aged between 18 and 22 years, and have a minimum educational qualification of S.4 (UCE), completed between 2020 and 2023, with passes in English and Mathematics. Application letters must be signed by LCI, LCII, LCIII Chairpersons, GISO or DISO, and the RDC. Additionally, candidates must be local residents, disciplined, and have no criminal record.
The recruitment exercise will span 56 days, encompassing application submission, verification, and the final recruitment process. All participants will receive security passes for accreditation.
