President Museveni Appoints Byakagaba IGP in Fresh Changes at UPF
In a significant reshuffle within the Uganda Police Force, President Yoweri Museveni has appointed new leaders and reassigned several key positions.
Abbas Byakagaba has been appointed as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), succeeding Mr. Martins Okoth Ochola, who retired two months ago. Abbas is the former director of Counter Terrorism and Human Resource Director at the Uganda Police Force.
Abbas has been deputised by James Ochaya who replaces Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police, replacing Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi.
Among other changes include the appointment and transfer of Kaali Ali Fahdi to the Directorate of Fire Prevention and Rescue Services replacing John Nuwagira who is now the commander of the Field Force Unit (FFU).
Similarly Hadijah Namutebi has moved from her role as Chief Political Commissariat to the Directorate of Welfare.Her former position is taken by Ubaldo Bamunoba.
Frank Mwesigwa has been appointed as the Director of Operations.
These changes were confirmed by the Presidential Press Secretary at State House , Faruk Kirunda in an official post on his X platform.
