Assailant Involved in Natete Robbery Arrested, to Appear in Court
Kampala Metropolitan Police have confirmed the arrest of Ashraf Kiiza, the assailant involved in a disturbing incident captured in a viral social media video in Natete Kutano, attacking his victim with a panga and hammer.
Kiiza had fled into hiding on May 13, 2024, moments after he attempted to rob one Turyamuhaki Sam of 8 million shillings at Bashir Grain Millers in Natete Kutano. In the video footage, Kiiza is seen wielding a panga and a hammer at his victim, seconds after he walked into the offices with a white sack holding the items. He violently demands money from Turyamuhaki, whom he also assaulted. Turyamuhaki escaped death because he fought back , sustaining major injuries on the back of his head and right hand, He is confirmed to be out of danger and is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson says Kiiza was apprehended by officers from the Flying Squad unit on Wednesday night May 15, after intensive efforts to locate him. Kiiza was smoked out of his hideout in Kyotera and subsequently detained at Nateete Police Station.
Owoyesigyire says further investigations into the incident are ongoing, and Kiiza will face prosecution in the courts of law for aggravated robbery and attempted murder.
