UNBS Welcomes New Executive Director Eng. James N. Kasigwa
Eng. James Nkamwesiga Kasigwa has been appointed as the 5th Executive Director of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), effective from May 13, 2024.
He was appointed by Hon. Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Francis Mwebesa. Eng. James N. Kasigwa brings a wealth of experience in Electrical Engineering and strategic management spanning over two decades. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, a Master’s of Science degree in Telecommunication from London South Bank University, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from ESAMI.
Prior to his appointment as Executive Director, Eng. Kasigwa served as the Director of Science, Technology, Innovation Regulation & Biosafety at the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation, Uganda. He also held the position of Commissioner of ICT Infrastructure Development at the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance.
Sylvia Kirabo the Principal Public Relations Officer says the appointment of Eng. Kasigwa has been warmly welcomed by the National Standards Council, Management, and Staff of UNBS. They look forward to his leadership and dedicated service in advancing UNBS’ strategic agenda during his tenure.
He replaces David Livingstone Ebiru who was fired last year over alleged corruption and abuse of office. Daniel Nangalama, the substantive deputy director in charge of management and financial services has been the acting ED for 11 months.
UNBS as a government agency, is committed to its mandate of developing, promoting, and enforcing national standards to protect public health and safety, as well as the environment, against harmful and sub-standard products. Additionally, UNBS promotes fair trade practices and competition within Uganda.
