Police Arrest Six Civilians Over Possession of Military Attire

Police in Kampala are holding six suspects for being in possession of security stores.

The arrests followed operations conducted on Monday, leading to the recovery of unauthorized military attire and equipment in various locations.

Patrick Onyango the Kampala  Metropolitan police spokesperson said one of such operations was carried out on by the Kiira Road Police based on intelligence information  they received on May 1st 2024. He indicated that individuals in Kamwokya and Nakawa areas of Kampala were impersonating security officers, particularly from the police and UPDF, using attire obtained from the stores of National Unity Platform (NUP) offices in Kamwokya.

Onyango explains that acting on this information, a court order was obtained from the Buganda Chief Magistrates court to conduct a search at the NUP offices.

He notes that on May 13, 2024, detectives executed the search at the NUP offices in Kamwokya, recovering a black Body Armour.

Additionally, the caretaker of the NUP offices, Evans Bukenya, was arrested to assist in further investigations.

In a separate operation conducted by Kasangati police, Onyango says five suspects were arrested at a location owned by Madoi Latif in Jokolera village, Watubba ward, Kasangati Town council.

The establishment, known as LA Fashions and Skill Development School, was searched, leading to the recovery of various military-style items.

The seized items included army green linings, uniforms, bags, headgear, and other accessories resembling military attire. The operation also yielded electric sewing machines and a significant quantity of cloth in military colors.

The suspects arrested during these operations have been detained for further investigation.
