President Museveni Tasks AG, Minister Odongo on Allegations of Speaker Owning Property in UK
President Yoweri Museveni has expressed concern over allegations made by the British High Commissioner against Parliament’s Speaker, Anita Among, regarding ownership of undisclosed properties in London.
President Museveni has tasked key officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen Jeje Odongo and the Attorney-General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, to provide detailed information in response to these claims.
The British High Commissioner’s report has raised significant diplomatic tensions, with the UK imposing sanctions on Speaker Among and two other ministers, alleging their involvement in corrupt practices.
However, the Deputy Inspector General of Government (IGG), Dr. Patricia Achan Akiria, in a lettr dated May 09 2024, informed President Museveni that her records show no evidence of Speaker Among owning property in the UK.
In response to these accusations, Speaker Among has vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that she does not possess any property in the UK, humorously adding that she does not even own ‘a pussy cat’ in the country.
President Museveni’s directive is aimed at addressing these allegations and its commitment to clarifying the situation. The involvement of top officials in investigating and responding to these claims highlights the diplomatic and legal significance of the issue.
The unfolding situation highlights the complex dynamics of international relations and the challenges posed by allegations of corruption involving high-ranking government officials.
As investigations continue and responses are awaited, the focus remains on resolving the diplomatic dispute and ensuring transparency in addressing the accusations leveled against senior officials.
