Police Condemns Assault on Hon. Mwijukye, Culprits Still At Large
Police in Greater Bushenyi are currently conducting investigations into the disturbing incident involving Hon. Mwijukye Francis, Member of Parliament for Buhweju Constituency, who was violently attacked and injured while addressing a land conflict situation on May 12, 2024, at Nyakishana Sub-county.
Police reveal that the Hon. MP had responded to a complaint from members of the Rwanyamabare Farmers Association, who expressed concern that their church was facing a threat of removal or demolition by a neighbor, Kamugisha Frank, who claimed ownership rights over the land.
Fred Enanga the Police spokesperson says Hon. Mwijukye was met with resistance from a group of individuals armed with sticks. A confrontation ensued, resulting in the Hon. MP sustaining serious head injuries. He was later transported to Nsiika Health Centre IV by a police response team for urgent medical attention.
Enanga says legislators serve as representatives of their constituents and carry out vital duties within Parliament and any act of violence or intimidation directed at lawmakers undermines the very essence of our democratic principles.
According to Enanga, a thorough investigation is underway to apprehend those responsible for this brazen attack.
“Such acts of impunity against elected officials will not be tolerated, and efforts are being made to arrest all those involved” he said while addressing a press briefing on Monday
