The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and Uganda Police Force have cordoned off Kwata Zone, Komamboga, Kawempe Division, Kampala, following intelligence reports of the presence of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the area.
According to Maj. Charles Kabona, spokesperson for the UPDF First Division, the devices were discovered in a residence rented by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists on Saturday, May 4, 202)application.
“We are currently operating in Kwata, Komamboga, and Kawempe Divisions. We have been warning the public that we have identified certain negative elements or terrorists, specifically from the ADF, who are attempting to destabilize our country, kill our citizens with bombs, and commit assassinations,” Maj. Kabona stated.
Maj. Kabona confirmed that four bombs have been discovered, along with other military ammunition, bullets, magazines, and military equipment. He added that experts are working to safely detonate the bombs. “So far, one has been successfully detonated, and we are in the process of detonating the others,” he said.
According to Maj. Kabona, the gathered intelligence indicates that the individuals who rented the houses in Komamboga are the same ones being sought by security agencies. “Security forces have previously arrested several ADF suspects, including Augustine Kalanzi, who was arrested in Masaka, while Suleiman Nsubuga and Swalleh Abibaker were apprehended in Busia and Zambia, respectively,” Maj. Kabona said. “During interrogation, they provided information leading to the raid on this house,” he added.
However, Maj. Kabona stated that no one was found in the house, and the suspects are currently at large. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected negative elements to the authorities.
Maj. Kabona assured the public that the operation to apprehend the terrorists has been ongoing, not only in Uganda but also outside the country’s borders. He further assured that the joint security forces will ensure that these criminals are identified, isolated, and arrested.
