17-year-old Boy Arrested for Hacking Face book Girlfriend to Death
Police in Kampala are holding a 17-year-old boy who has been on the run for murdering his 24-year-old girlfriend and dumping her body behind a rented apartment.
The suspect Ssematimba Daniel was captured in Nansana, Wakiso district, by police operatives attached to the Crime Intelligence Department, two weeks after he committed the offence.
According to Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, the suspect has since confessed to committing the crime. Latifah Watoli, his victim, and resident of Kyebando, Wakiso district, allegedly visited Ssematimba’s residence where a quarrel ensued, resulting in the fatal attack.
Onyango reveals that the suspect met Watoli through social media, and the couple kicked off a romantic affair that ended in violence and subsequent death.
Onyango says preliminary reports suggest that Ssematimba used a hammer and machete during the altercation, leading to Watoli’s death. After the incident, he allegedly wrapped her body in blankets and bedsheets before discarding it behind his rented accommodation.
Onyango further revealed that Ssematimba cleaned the crime scene and subsequently fled.
The police spokesman confirmed that Ssematimba has been arrested and admitted to the murder. The investigation into the case is ongoing, with preparations underway to present the suspect’s file before the courts. Ssematimba is expected to appear in court next week following the completion of inquiries.
Onyango says this incident should serve as a reminder to the importance of exercising caution when meeting acquaintances from social media platforms. He has further called for vigilance and responsible behavior, particularly among the youth engaging in online relationships, to prevent such devastating outcomes.
