DP Begins Preparations for 2026 Elections
The Democratic Party (DP) has initiated preparations for the 2026 general elections by commencing the registration of its members next month.
Following the nationwide member registration, grassroots elections will ensue to select delegates representing various districts and constituencies at the delegates’ conference scheduled for August 2024.
Dr. Gerald Siranda, the party’s Secretary-General, addressed reporters at the Party City-House Offices in Kampala, stating that the party is undertaking grassroots structural renewal to rebuild and prepare adequately for the upcoming elections.
He emphasized that the changes made, including the positions of Youth leader, Women, and representatives for people with disabilities, have been duly gazetted by the National Electoral Commission.
Furthermore, Dr. Siranda outlined that each district will be represented by five delegates: the chairperson, Women leader, Youth leader, and two representatives from each constituency.
This restructuring aims to ensure efficient management of the delegates’ conference, focusing on their welfare and inclusivity.
