Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago Flown to India for Medical Treatment
On Wednesday afternoon, it was confirmed that Erias Lukwago, the President of the FDC Party and Lord Mayor of Kampala, has left the country for medical treatment in India.
Lukwago has been battling severe upper limb and back pain for the past two months, seeking treatment at Nakasero and Nairobi Hospitals with minimal relief.
After consultations with physicians from these hospitals as well as Mulago National Referral Hospital, it was recommended that Lukwago undergo specialized treatment. With approval from the Uganda Medical Board, he has been referred to India for further medical care.
Lukwago’s treatment journey will take place at Medanta Mediclinic Cybercity in New Delhi, India, following a referral from Dr. Norbert Orwotho, a spine surgeon and consultant orthopedic at Mulago Hospital.
The decision to opt for surgery in India was prompted by the lack of sufficient capacity for such specialized procedures in Uganda.
The news of Lukwago’s departure for medical treatment has elicited well-wishes from across the country, with many expressing hopes for a smooth and successful recovery. As he embarks on this journey, thoughts and prayers are with Lukwago for his health and well-being.
