Court Martial Rules: SFC Soldier Accused of Murder Must Answer Charges
Julius Ecee, a soldier from the 01 Special Forces Group, accused of robbing and killing one of his victims at a hardware shop in Oyam district, faces charges of murder and aggravated robbery under sections 285 and 286 of the Penal Code Act.
The trial is took place at Loro Ton Council in Oyam District.
The judge advocate, Hassan Mulyanti, stated on Tuesday that Ecee must respond to both accusations, allowing the trial to proceed. Defense counsel Lt. Hilary Rugyendo had argued that the prosecution’s evidence was inconsistent and discredited, submitting a plea of no case to answer.
However, State Prosecutor Lt. David Basiima countered that the evidence was sufficient and lacked the serious inconsistencies claimed by the defense.
During the proceedings, the prosecution presented 16 witnesses and nine exhibits to support their case. They allege that on December 23, 2023, Ecee, dressed in military attire, entered a hardware shop in Loro Town Council, demanding money. When the shop attendant fled, Ecee fired his weapon, injuring three people and stealing money from the counter. One of the injured individuals later died in the hospital, leading to Ecee’s arrest.
