The Special Forces Command (SFC) has refuted reports alleging that one of their soldiers shot and killed a National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter in Kampala.
An NUP supporter claimed on Saturday evening, via X (formerly Twitter), that their colleague had been fatally shot at Bwaise roundabout by an SFC soldier traveling in a police pickup.
However, SFC’s public information officer, Maj Jimmy Omara, dismissed the tweet circulated by Motive Kasagga as false, urging people to treat it with contempt.
Maj Omara stated, “No such incident was recorded where our troops operated. We caution the spreaders of this misinformation to desist immediately, as further false accusations against SFC will face legal consequences.”
He attributed the claims to “NUP radicals” but emphasized that SFC remains focused on its duties despite distractions.
The circulating claim followed NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi’s return to the city from attending a memorial service for Ritah Nabukenya, an NUP supporter killed by a vehicle in 2020.
The memorial was held in Kiboga, with the opposition party alleging that Nabukenya was struck by a police vehicle with registration number UP 4841 while en route to an NUP presidential candidate’s consultative meeting.
However, the police denied responsibility for Nabukenya’s death.
