Turkish Firm Loses UGX 2.2 Billion to Conmen
The company was duped into sending 28 containers, each containing 540 bags of fertilizers to Uganda.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit is investigating how a Turkish company, Iskenderun Fertilizer Inc. was defrauded over Shs 2.2 billion in a shady transaction for supply of fertilizers by Ugandan conmen.
According to the unit, between May and September 2023, a one Ronnie Mukasa and his accomplices using Kureha (U) Ltd, duped the Turkish company into sending 28 containers, each containing 540 bags of fertilizers to Uganda.
Upon receipt of the goods, the Mukasa and his accomplices reportedly cut off communication and put the fertilizers on market for sell.
We understand some of the fertilisers have been recovered from shops in Container Village, the business hub for agro chemicals and other products.
The company does not exist in the registry.
The anti-graft unit said police have joined the leaders of container village to call upon the traders to return the stolen goods, and also aid in the ongoing investigations.
Mukasa is said to be at large.
