Police K-9 Team Tracks Coffee Thief, Recover Stolen Goods

The Mityana K-9 Unit has played a significant role in aiding the police in apprehending suspects and recovering stolen goods. In a recent case, the team assisted in the recovery of a sack of coffee stolen from Kayima Madi, a resident of Kitaliza cell in Kamusenene Parish.

Following the theft report filed by Kayima at the Kiganda Police Station, the K-9 Unit deployed their sniffer dog, Whisky, to track down the culprit. Whisky successfully traced the scent to the residence of Kanyikera Raphael in Bugayo Cell, where officers found a stash of fresh coffee matching the description provided by Kayima.

According to police, Kanyikera confessed that the coffee did not belong to him and claimed it was brought by someone else intending to sell it to him. However, he refused to disclose the identity of the individual who supplied him with the stolen coffee. Consequently, Kanyikera was arrested and taken to the Kiganda police station for further investigation.

In a separate incident, the K-9 Unit in Bushenyi demonstrated its effectiveness by tracking down a suspect involved in a theft from a motor vehicle reported at the Bushenyi Central Police Station. The suspect, identified as Agaba Alvin, had recently been released from prison for a similar offense.

Upon encountering the police dog, Alvin attempted to flee into a nearby forest to evade capture. However, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took over the pursuit to conduct further inquiries into the case.

The police have praised the invaluable role played by police K-9 units in apprehending criminals and recovering stolen property. They note that with their exceptional sense of smell and specialized training, canine officers continue to assist police in combating crime and ensuring community safety.
