Ministry of Public Service has expressed concern over the lack of prioritization in the next financial year budget for the compensation of over 2,000 individuals who will be affected by the rationalization process, amounting to Shs74 billion.

Minister Muruli Mukasa addressed the Public Service and Local Government Committee, highlighting that the absence of this funding from the Ministry of Finance could lead to delays in implementing the merger of government agencies.

Appearing before the Committee of Public Service and Local Government on Monday, Minister Muruli Mukasa presented the budget estimate for the financial year 2024/2025 on behalf of the Ministry of Public Service.

Minister Muruli clarified that not all employees in the government entities slated for merger would be affected. Those impacted would include various board members, drivers, secretaries, and others.

Regarding the establishment of the Salary Review Board, the minister noted that the process has been finalized and awaits cabinet approval.

The issue of escalating corruption in the recruitment of public servants sparked a serious debate within the committee, with the minister pointing fingers at politicians, especially at the district local government level.
