Ugandan athelete Peruth Chemutai clinched a silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana, held at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Clocking in at 9:16:07, Chemutai finished just behind Kenya’s Beatrice Chepkoech, who completed the race in 9:15:61. Ethiopian Tefera Lomi Muleta secured the bronze medal with a time of 9:16:63.
Chemutai’s achievement adds to Uganda’s medal tally, which now stands at eleven, including two golds (badminton and cycling), five silvers (weightlifting, 800m, and 3000m steeplechase), and four bronzes (swimming, weightlifting, and javelin).
Notably, Kenya’s Chepkoech, the reigning world record holder in the discipline, also set a new championship record during the event.
