Africans Can Conquer World Football – Museveni Tells Cranes

President Yoweri Museveni on Monday evening met the Uganda Cranes team at State House Entebbe and encouraged the to eat well and train in order to become football giants.

The team was headed by their captain, Dennis Onyango, and FUFA officials led by their president, Moses Magogo. Others officials include youth minister Nakiwala Kiyingi among others

He congratulated them upon the victory over Cape Verde last Saturday and qualifying for AFCON 2019.

“From my footballing experience, I know that the following ingredients are important for the game; stamina, skill and teamwork. Stamina is critical because you do a lot of running. You must eat well, exercise and avoid alcohol, smoking and womanizing.”

Museveni advised the team to keep training, saying Africans are very strong naturally and have capacity to conquer the world in terms of playing football. “If you train well, you can dominate the sports world. The potential exists, what is critical is harnessing it through training.

The president said also promised more government support to sports including building and refurbishing of stadia in the near future.

Museveni urged the team to ensure it wins its final game against Tanzania, even when they have already qualified.

The Uganda Cranes on Saturday defeated Cape Verde 1-0 at the Mandela National Stadium to seal a spot at next year’s AFCON tournament in Cameroon.
