NRM Launches Strategic Register Update Campaign in Kigezi Sub-Region
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is actively rallying support in the Kigezi sub-region through a register update campaign.
The launch, hosted at the Kabale NRM party office, was bustling with activity as prominent officials such as David Bahati (Minister of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, and NRM Chairperson for Kabale), Chris Baryomusi (Minister of ICT and National Guidance, and NRM Chairperson for Kanungu), and Henry Musasizi (Minister of State for Finance, and NRM Chairperson for Rubanda) took the spotlight.
Initiated by President Museveni in February 2024, this update is a strategic maneuver for the NRM party, aiming to fortify their base for the 2026 elections. The register will serve as their compass, guiding them in assessing supporter strength and devising effective campaigns.
Trade Minister David Bahati urged Kabale residents to register, stressing its role in meticulous planning and discouraging duplicate registrations. He emphasized how a robust register enhances party democracy.
Henry Musasizi announced training sessions for registration officers in Rubanda, underscoring the importance of wealth creation programs alongside the electoral process.
Chris Baryomusi, on the other hand, focused on the NRM’s legacy. He highlighted the party’s contribution to establishing peace and stability, acknowledging past shortcomings in registration exercises and stressing the need for early preparation this time. Transparency was a central theme in his address.
He assured everyone that verification would be conducted to ensure genuine NRM membership. Baryomusi reiterated that registration is entirely free, and anyone requesting payment should be reported. He also urged participants to maintain a propaganda-free environment during the update process.
The register update is scheduled to take place from March 13th to 17th, 2024. This campaign underscores the NRM’s dedication to mobilizing support and fortifying their party structure in anticipation of the forthcoming national elections.
