Standard Gauge Railway Project: Compensation Completion Signals Construction Kickoff

Perez Wamburu, the project coordinator of the Standard Gauge Railway has announced that over 90% of individuals impacted by the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project in Uganda have been compensated.

This marks a significant step forward in the project’s development, as it paves the way for construction to begin.

The compensation process, which spans from the Malaba border to Mayuge District in Busoga Sub-region, has been completed, demonstrating considerable progress.

Furthermore, Wamburu revealed that the compensation process has now extended to Jinja, where affected individuals have been notified of their entitled compensation and are set to receive payments shortly.

However, disputes within families regarding the distribution of compensation funds have led to delays in disbursement, prompting government intervention to resolve the issue.
