The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has officially launched the recruitment process for the upcoming Uganda Census 2024, seeking to fill crucial positions for the nationwide operation.

Uganda is set to conduct the National Population and Housing Census 2024 with the reference night being 9th May 2024. The Census will be done in 10 days starting on 9th May 2024 to 19th May 2024. President Museveni launched the NPHC 2024 activity on December 12th, 2023.

In a statement released by UBOS, it was revealed that vacancies are available for Census Supervisors, totaling 18,483 positions, and Census Enumerators, with a requirement of 114,460 individuals.

The application window is set to close on March 15, 2024, at 5 p.m. Ubos has directed Interested candidates to submit their applications exclusively online through the official UBOS website at https://Censusrecruitment.ubos.org. Noting that the minimum qualification stipulated for applicants is a Senior Six (S.6) certificate.

UBOS is tasked with providing and maintaining the National Statistical System. UBOS aims to deliver accurate and timely demographic, social, and economic statistics. Every 10 years, Uganda holds a national census, and the last one was carried out in 2014.

According to UBOS, Uganda’s current population is estimated at 45.5 million, with a growth rate of 30.4 percent.

The Census 2024 represents the sixth such exercise since Uganda’s independence in 1962. Notably, it will be the third census conducted by UBOS, established by an Act of Parliament in 1998, and it will mark a historic milestone as the first paperless census in the country’s history.

This Census is a transition to a digital way of data collection and analysis processes.

According to Ubos, the implementation of a digital census will better resource utilization and minimize logistical challenges associated with traditional paper-based surveys. Using electronic data capture will enable the body to  quickly process and share information.

The entire process is projected to cost 136 billion shillings.
