Former VP Gilbert Bukenya Appointed Senior Presidential Advisor on Environment and Sanitation

Former Vice President of Uganda Professor Gilbert Balibaseka Bukenya has been appointed Senior Presidential Advisor on Environment and Sanitation.

The announcement was released by the Presidential Press Unit on the evening of Wednesday 28th February, 2024.

In the statement, PPU noted: “the Presidential Press Unit [PPU] wishes to inform the general public that H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda Gen [Rtd] Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed H.E Prof. Gilbert Bukenya as the Senior Presidential Advisor on Environment and Sanitation”, Read the Statement.

Gilbert Balibaseka Bukenya is a Ugandan politician and physician who served as the seventh Vice President of Uganda from 23rd May 2003 until 23rd May 2011.

He also represented the constituency of Busiro County North in the Ugandan Parliament since 1996 to 2016.

During his tenure as Vice President, he was so vocal against Environmental Degradation including wetland encroachment.

This prompted him to spearhead the gospel of upland rice growing a project which he has always said was politicized consequently dying on arrival
