Form New Party, ‘Najjanankumbi FDC’ Tells Katonga Faction

The leadership of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) at Najjanankumbi has informed their counterparts at Katonga Road that they are free to initiate another political organization.

During the weekly press briefing, John Kikonyogo, the party spokesperson, also urged the group led by Dr. Kizza Besigye to cease provoking them with insults.

Last week, Erias Lukwago, the president of the FDC Katonga faction, disclosed during their national council meeting that some members had proposed the idea of establishing another political group.

Kikonyogo stated that this decision is acceptable to them. “As FDC, we lack the authority and mandate to prevent anyone from forming a political party. We wish them well, although we would have preferred these members to return to the party. However, if they cannot, they are free to pursue their intentions,” Kikonyogo stated.

He urged the leaders of the Katonga faction to refrain from hurling insults at them.

“They should not pressure us, and they should desist from hurling insults. We will not tolerate this behavior. FDC has lost members before. They should conduct themselves with civility, as Gen Muntu of ANT did,” he remarked.

Once the most formidable opposition party in the country, FDC experienced internal divisions last year when a group of leaders, led by Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, alleged that party president Patrick Amuriat and secretary general Nandala Mafabi had received funds from various funders in the lead-up to the 2021 elections to undermine the National Unity Platform (NUP). Amid bitter exchanges and physical altercations, the Ssemujju group established their base at Katonga Road, where Dr. Besigye maintains an office, while Amuriat and Mafabi retained control of Najjanankumbi, which remains the official party headquarters.
