Headteacher, Security Guard Arrested For Theft of School Computers

Six suspects have been arrested in Serere in over the theft of 27 computers at a local school in Kadungulu sub-county.

The incident happened in Kagwara Seed School on December 14, 2023 when the thieves broke into the school’s computer laboratory and stole the computers without being detected. Following the incident, the police initiated an investigation which led to the arrest of the suspects earlier this week.

The arrested suspects include the school’s security guard, Muhammad Gule, the Headteacher, Robert Ogaram, and a cleaner whose identity remains undisclosed.

Additionally, Ronald Esesu, Michael Okiror, and David Opio, who are all businessmen in Serere district, were also apprehended. They are currently detained at East Kyoga Regional Police headquarters in Soroti City.

Oscar Gregg Ageca, the East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman, stated that all the suspects have undergone screening. He further mentioned that the headteacher and the cleaner were released on bond.

Regarding the security guard, Ageca explained that he was on duty at the time of the theft but has since absconded. However, he was eventually apprehended and has been cooperative with the authorities.

As a result of the theft, students who study ICT are unable to continue their lessons as the computer laboratory remains empty.
