Couple Murders Husband’s Other Wife in Hatched Plot
Police in Mayuge District are investigating circumstances under which a man on the run conspired with his wife to kill his concubine at their residence in Nabuwaami village.
The suspects including Charles Oketcho and Kibiiri Kanyanya his wife, hacked the deceased identified as Rose Barbirye and later dumped her lifeless body in a cassava plantation.
Local authorities claim the couple committed the offence as an act of revenge towards Nabirye for causing the imprisonment of Oketcho for close to 18 months.
It is alleged that Nabirye’s parents pinned Oketcho for stealing their cow in 2022 and he was consequently remanded to Kityerera prisons in Mayuge district for 18 months after he pleaded guilty upon plea bargain. While in prison, Kanyanya begged Nabirye to influence the release of her husband but in vain.
The LC Chairman of the area says following Oketcho’s release on February 16, he and Kanyanya schemed to retaliate against Nabirye due to her family’s actions.Nabirye reported the matter to local leaders, leading to reconciliation meetings where Oketcho and Kanyanya apologized for their behavior.
However, Nabirye’s body was later found bearing severe wounds to the head, back, and stomach.
Mayuge District Police Commander Agnes Aanyu says Kanyanya is currently held at Mayuge Central Police Station for murder, while Nabirye’s body has been transported to Mayuge Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Aanyu further stated that efforts are underway to locate Oketcho who remains on the run.
