NUP, NRM Gear Up for Dokolo By-Election
The National Unity Platform (NUP) has line up around 300 mobilizers ahead of the Dokolo District Woman MP By-election. Over the weekend a delegation led by the party’s Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya met mobilization committees from all 14 sub-counties in the district.
They tasked them with attracting new members to the party to vote for their candidate in the upcoming By-election. Rubongoya explained that this demonstrates that NUP is not only present in central Uganda but also across the country.
One person has already expressed interest in contesting the By-election, but Rubongoya stated that the party will hold a primary election if more people show interest.
Asega Habib Jogo, NUP’s deputy secretary of mobilization for Northern Uganda, cautioned security against intimidating their mobilizers, asserting that NUP is a legitimate political party with the right to mobilize its structures without intimidation.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the NRM party introduced Janet Adongo Elau as the official candidate for the Dokolo By-Election, despite six other individuals expressing interest in the same position.
During their mobilization meeting at Dokolo Parish hall, two candidates, Judith Ayugi and Lillian Auma Okullo, withdrew their candidacy, while five others, including Beatrice Molly Abang, Irene Amongi Ajwika, Grace Hanna Lalam, Rebecca Arao, and Dr. Grace Anna Atine, chose to run as independents.
