Alleged Hacker Arrested for Stealing Millions from Mobile Money Agents
Police in Mukono Central Police Station (CPS), are holding a 48-year-old hacker for stealing money worth millions from mobile money systems of agents and dealers.
The suspect is identified as Kaporonyo Sabiiti, a resident of Namugongo, Wakiso. Sabiiti stands accused of hacking into several mobile money systems, resulting in significant financial losses.
According to police spokesman Fred Enanga, Sabiiti operated across several regions, including Mukono, Jinja, Misindye, Kiira division, Kanoni, and Nagalama, where he purportedly siphoned off millions of shillings from mobile money agents’ lines.
Enanga reveals that the suspect attempted to evade detection by customizing his vehicle’s registration plates, believing it would conceal his movements.
He however reveals that the Crime Intelligence officers conducted an operation, following several complaints and various exhibits in his possession were recovered. Among them include four Airtel SIM cards and a hacking device.
Enanga further reveals that his motor vehicle, a white Toyota Harrier with registration number UBD 612P, was also impounded as part of the investigation.
