9-Year-Old’s Daring Journey: Meets Speaker Among at Parliament, Secures Pledge for School Fee Relief

Today, the Parliament gate’s security witnessed the remarkable courage of a 9-year-old pupil. Ruth Precious Kharunda, a Primary five student from Nakasero Primary School, donned her school uniform and independently journeyed to Parliament with the singular goal of meeting the Rt. Hon Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.

Addressing the security officers, Ruth shared her journey from home, highlighting her admiration for Speaker Among, whom she views as a role model.

Upon learning of this, Speaker Among promptly instructed that Ruth be escorted to her office ahead of other waiting guests. With genuine humility, Speaker Among warmly embraced the young girl, engaging in a personal conversation. Ruth, expressing her parents’ financial challenges, earnestly requested the Speaker’s assistance in alleviating the burden by covering her school fees for the upcoming term.

Surprised by Ruth’s boldness, Speaker Among pledged to fulfill her request. The Speaker, renowned for advocating child education, has spearheaded various initiatives to support keeping children in school.
