Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for the traffic police, shared details about the incidents that unfolded in Nabweru and Mabira on Monday to journalists at the police headquarters.

He reveals that the first incident, located in Mabira near the police station along Kampala- Jinja highway in Buikwe district, involved a car with registration number UBH107D/UDG352B, a scanner trailer, and another car with registration number UBH404F, a Toyota Probox.

Kananura reported that the two passengers in the Toyota Probox lost their lives instantly as the driver attempted a risky overtaking maneuver. Five others sustained injuries in the same incident.

The traffic police spokesperson has attributed the accident to careless overtaking by the Probox driver.

Meanwhile, in Nabweru at Kawaala Junction in Nansana Municipality, another tragic incident unfolded where two people were confirmed dead, and eight others sustained injuries in a collision involving a Mitsubishi Fuso with registration number UAQ539E, and motorcycles with registration numbers UFS111, UEP598K, UFU872P, all Bajaj Boxers, along with pedestrians.

The crash occurred at 12:40 pm on January 28th, 2024.

According to Kananura,  the driver of the Mitsubishi Fuso, while descending from Kazo slope towards Kawaala Junction, failed to brake and collided with the motorcycles and pedestrians.

This resulted in the immediate death of two individuals, a passenger on one of the motorcycles and a rider and left eight others injured, including pedestrians, motorcycle riders, and passengers.

The injured victims were transported to Mulago for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to Mulago mortuary for postmortem examinations.
