Makerere University Hosts 74th Graduation Ceremony
Makerere University has kicked off with its 74th Graduation Ceremony happening at the iconic Freedom Square.
The ceremony, spanning from Monday, January 29th to Friday, February 2nd, 2024, will witness the conferment of a diverse range of degrees across various disciplines.
A total of 132 Ph.D. degrees will be awarded, with 46 female and 86 male scholars attaining the pinnacle of academic excellence. The Masters category will see 1,585 graduates, comprising 699 females and 886 males, while 156 Postgraduate Diplomas will be bestowed upon 67 females and 89 males.
Undergraduate accomplishments are also noteworthy, with 11,016 students earning their degrees – 5,990 females and 5,026 males. Additionally, 24 individuals, 15 females and 9 males, will receive Undergraduate Diplomas.
The 74th Graduation Ceremony commences with the College of Health Sciences (CHS), College of Natural Sciences (CoNAS), and the School of Law (SoL) taking the spotlight.
Subsequent days will feature graduations from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), College of Education and External Studies (CEES), College of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS), College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS), and the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources, and Bio-security (CoVAB). Makerere University Business School (MUBS) will have its turn on Thursday, February 1st. The grand finale on Friday, February 2nd, will showcase the achievements of the College of Engineering, Design, Art, and Technology (CEDAT).
In a special tribute to outstanding individuals, Makerere University will confer Honorary Doctorates on the first day of the ceremony to Prof. Leif Abrahamsson, who will be honored with a Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa, and Hon. Betty Oyella Bigombe and Hon. Justice Frederick Martin Stephen Egonda-Ntende, who will both receive Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa.
