Court further Adjourns Incitement Case Involving Dr.Besigye and Mukaku
Former FDC President, Dr. Kizza Besigye, and Political Activist Lubega Mukaaku on Thursday made a court appearance at Buganda Road Court for their ongoing trial, accused of inciting the public to violence during a demonstration in downtown Kampala on June 14, 2022.
During the court session, the prosecution sought an adjournment, citing the absence of Police officers meant to testify due to the ongoing NAM Conference.
However, Counsel for the defendants, FDC’s Katonga faction acting President and Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, strongly opposed the adjournment, labeling it as not only flimsy but also false.
Lukwago argued that the NAM/G77 Conferences had already concluded, accusing the Prosecutor of committing perjury, an offense that the trial Magistrate should take note of.
In a press address, Dr. Kizza Besigye characterized the trial as a continued persecution by the regime against political opponents. He urged the courts, as arbiters, to avoid being drawn into such schemes orchestrated by the government.
The trial was subsequently adjourned to February 14, 2024.
