Janet Kataha Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports, is set to unveil the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results for 2023 today at midday in a broadcasted event at State House, Nakasero.
The results, stemming from exams conducted between November 7 and 9 last year, have been eagerly anticipated.
According to Jennifer Kalule, the Uneb spokesperson, the board has already briefed the minister, and the results are prepared for release. The 10% decline in PLE candidates compared to 2022 is explained by Uneb as a return to the typical annual number, excluding 2022 when figures rose due to the absence of national exams in 2020 because of COVID-19.
Out of the 749,347 candidates across 14,153 examination centers, 69 are inmates from Upper Prison School, Luzira. Female candidates represent 52%, while males make up 48%. The majority of exam centers (79%) are Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools, hosting 501,619 candidates, with the remaining 21% in non-UPE centers with 247,728 candidates.
Furthermore, 70% of candidates are funded under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) Program, while the remaining 30% are privately sponsored. There are 2,580 candidates with Special Needs. Parents, candidates, and stakeholders can utilize Short Message Services (SMS) on mobile networks to promptly check results by typing “PLE,” followed by a space, the candidate’s index number, and sending it to 6600.
