NRM Reflects on 38 Years of Resilience and Transformation, Charts Path for Continued Progress”
The Secretary General of the NRM, Richard Todwong, expressed that the 38-year tenure of the party in leadership is a cause for celebration among all Ugandans, considering the significant transformation from what Uganda was to what it has become today.
Todwong asserted that the NRM inherited a country in critical condition and implemented policies to stabilize the economy, resulting in Uganda being out of danger due to these introduced policies.
Taking control of the government in 1986, when various social indicators were below standards, including cooperation, security, economic development, infrastructure, and human resource development, Todwong recalled that previous leaders were focused on personalities, religion, and tribal affiliation. This is in contrast to the NRM’s approach, which shifted the country’s focus to what unites rather than divides.
“We are commemorating 38 years of comprehensive transformation in both the economic and political spheres,” Todwong emphasized.
He disclosed that the NRM leadership is actively collaborating with the government to monitor the fulfillment of the party manifesto. At the midterm, Todwong expressed satisfaction with the government’s efforts in fulfilling promises and conveyed confidence that more can be achieved.
Todwong also announced that the electoral commission’s roadmap is already available, and the party is gearing up for internal elections before the general elections. Voter registers are being updated and printed, with plans to take them to the countryside for updates before conducting primary elections.
Congratulating the National Chairman and President, HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, along with members of the National Resistance Movement, the Central Executive Committee, party members, and the general public, Todwong affirmed that the 38-year milestone is worth celebrating. He pledged the commitment of the NRM party to continuous improvement, emphasizing its enduring presence in serving the people of Uganda.
